Arctic Sledding & Campfire

Karu Lodge’s sledding experience is full of speed, laughter and winter fun. Ride down the hill as many times as time allows, play in the snow, build snowmen or even snow horses, and enjoy the Lapland winter in your own way.

After sledding, it is time to slow down and warm up by the open fire inside a cosy traditional kota hut. Enjoy a hot drink, roast reindeer sausage and marshmallows over the fire, and spend an unhurried moment together.

Snow Fun and the Warmth of an Open Fire

Karu Lodge’s sledding experience includes plenty of sledding and joyful snow play on our sledding hill, which has been enjoyed by guests for decades. After sledding, we head into the warmth of a traditional kota hut to gather around the open fire and enjoy a hot drink and traditional Lapland kampanisu. Reindeer sausage and marshmallows are also served for you to roast over the fire yourself.

The experience begins by meeting at Karu Lodge’s red main building. The warm indoor facilities and toilets are available for guests, and you are welcome to come inside to warm up during the experience if the cold weather calls for it.

The sledding hill is approximately 150 metres long, so walking back up the hill is also part of the experience. Before you start, your guide will explain how to steer and turn the sled and how to enjoy the hill safely. After that, you can ride down as many times as time and your energy allow.

Weather and snow conditions permitting, we can also build snowmen – or perhaps even snow horses – and capture some fun winter photos together.

After sledding, we gather at the kota hut. Sitting on reindeer hides around the open fire, we roast reindeer sausage and marshmallows and enjoy a hot drink and kampanisu. Along the way, you will also hear stories about the history of the place and the land beneath it.

What to Wear

  • a warm hat
  • warm gloves or mittens
  • a neck warmer or scarf
  • warm layers underneath your outerwear

Duration: approximately 2 hours
Physical level: easy to moderate – sledding itself is easy, but the approximately 150-metre hill is climbed on foot.

Group size: maximum 15 guests.

  • Children aged 4–10: €69/person

Children aged 4–7 must sled under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian and follow the guide’s instructions. Only one person is allowed on a sled at a time.
