Ice Fishing on Karu Lodge’s Own Pond & Finnish Soup Lunch
Try traditional Finnish ice fishing on Karu Lodge’s own pond, surrounded by the winter nature of Lapland. Learn the basics of ice fishing, make your own hole in the ice and take a moment to see what might be happening beneath the surface – whether you catch a fish is always up to nature.
After ice fishing, we will move to the warm fireplace room right by the pond, where an open fire creates a cosy atmosphere and gives you a peaceful place to warm up. There, we will enjoy a traditional Finnish soup lunch served with bread, followed by a hot drink and a handmade kampanisu pastry.
This ice fishing experience requires no long walk or strenuous physical activity, so you can simply focus on the experience itself, the winter nature around you and an unhurried moment together.
Arctic Ice Fishing, Local Food and Fireside Warmth
The ice fishing experience takes you to Karu Lodge’s own pond to enjoy one of the most traditional ways to spend time outdoors during a Finnish winter. The pond is located right next to the main grounds, so there is no long walk to reach the fishing spot. Right by the pond are the Susi smoke sauna and a warm fireplace room, which serves as the base for the experience.
The experience begins with pickup from the agreed meeting point at Hotel Luostotunturi, or alternatively you can arrive at Karu Lodge with your own car.
Your guide will first explain how to move safely on the ice and introduce the equipment used for ice fishing. We will make holes in the ice and learn the basics: how to use the ice fishing rod, how to move the lure and how to notice when a fish may be interested in the bait.
No previous ice fishing experience is required. All necessary ice fishing equipment is included, and your guide will assist you throughout the experience.
After that, you will have time to try ice fishing at your own pace and enjoy the surrounding winter nature. Part of the charm of ice fishing is the waiting – you never know in advance what might come up from beneath the ice, or whether anything will bite at all. We cannot guarantee a catch, but we can guarantee an authentic ice fishing experience.
During the fishing session, you can move to the warm fireplace room at any time to warm up. This makes the experience comfortable even on colder winter days and suitable for guests who prefer to avoid long walks or physically demanding excursions.
After ice fishing, we will head into the warm fireplace room and gather by the open fire to enjoy a traditional Finnish soup lunch served with bread. After the meal, hot drinks and handmade kampanisu pastries are served. There is time to warm up, chat and hear stories about Karu Lodge and the history of the place.
