Snow Sledding & Campfire Experience
Karu Lodge’s sledding hill is full of speed, laughter and winter fun. Ride down the hill as many times as you like, play in the snow, build snowmen or even snow horses, and enjoy the Lapland winter in your own way.
After sledding, it’s time to slow down by the open fire in a cosy kota hut. Enjoy a hot drink, roast reindeer sausage and marshmallows over the fire, and spend an unhurried moment together.
Snow Fun and the Warmth of an Open Fire
Karu Lodge’s sledding hill is a great way to enjoy an authentic winter day in Lapland, filled with speed, snow play and time by the fire. Our sledding hill has been in use for decades, and the approximately 150-metre slope offers plenty of fun in the middle of the snowy Lapland landscape.
The experience begins with pickup from a hotel in Luosto, or you can also arrive at Karu Lodge with your own car. The warm indoor facilities and toilets in Karu Lodge’s red main building are available to guests, and you can also come inside to warm up during the experience if the weather is especially cold.
Before the first run, your guide will show you how to steer and turn the sled and explain how to enjoy the hill safely. After that, you can ride down the hill as many times as time and your own energy allow. The approximately 150-metre hill is climbed on foot, so walking back up is also part of the experience.
When weather and snow conditions allow, you can also play in the snow, build snowmen or perhaps even snow horses, and capture some fun winter memories in photos.
After sledding, we move to a cosy kota hut by the open fire. Sitting on reindeer hides, you can roast your own reindeer sausage and marshmallows, enjoy a hot drink and a traditional Lapland kampanisu pastry, and relax by the fire while hearing stories about the place, its history and the surrounding nature.

- warm layers underneath your outerwear
Duration: approximately 2 hours
