Private Fell & Campfire Experience
Set out on snowshoes with a guide towards the summit of Yli-Luosto Fell on Karu Lodge’s private fell area. We make our way uphill at a relaxed pace, stopping along the way to enjoy the silence of Lapland, the snowy surroundings and the views opening up around us.
At the summit, we take a short break with a warm drink and enjoy the views over the surrounding forests and fells. On a clear day, the landscape stretches far into the distance.
We then return through the forest and snow-laden trees back to Karu Lodge. At the end of the experience, we gather in a warm traditional kota hut by the open fire, roast reindeer sausage and enjoy an unhurried moment together.
Snowshoeing Towards the Summit
Set out on snowshoes across Karu Lodge’s private fell area towards the summit of Yli-Luosto. The experience combines a peaceful climb, wide winter views, snowy forest and an unhurried moment by the open fire at the end of the hike.
The experience begins with pickup from Hotel Luostotunturi in central Luosto, or alternatively you can arrive at Karu Lodge with your own car.
Before departure, your guide will introduce the snowshoes and poles, explain how to move with them and go through the route and safety instructions. We then begin the climb towards the summit at a relaxed pace.
During the ascent, we take short breaks when needed and watch as the landscape gradually opens up around us. The aim is not to reach the summit as quickly as possible, but to enjoy the journey itself, the winter silence and the surrounding Lapland nature.
At the summit, we take a short break and enjoy a warm drink. There is time to pause, breathe in the fresh fell air and take in the views over the surrounding forests and fells. We also take a closer look at the shapes, formations and small natural phenomena created by snow, ice, wind and the fell itself – ever-changing details shaped by Arctic nature. On a clear day, the landscape stretches far into the distance.
From the summit, we return by a different route through the forest and snow-laden trees back to Karu Lodge. As we descend, the scenery becomes more sheltered again, offering a different perspective of the fell and its winter landscape.
At the end of the hike, we gather in a warm traditional kota hut by the open fire. There, we roast reindeer sausage and enjoy an unhurried moment together before the experience comes to an end.
